Of course, the most important historical figure that has been related to the island is the great Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, who was born here and then on, founded a school and taught medicine. Hippocrates used to teach and examine his patients under the Plane Tree of Hippocrates, as it is known today, which is located in front of the Castle of the Knights or Neratzia’s Castle as it is otherwise known. This is an imposing medieval castle and a great example of a knightly coastal fortress.
Another significant monument that is associated with medicine is the Asclepion, which is an ancient healing center that was dedicated to Asclepius, the god of medicine and health. This place was not only used for examining patients but also for teaching medicine to future doctors.
Other important monuments that are worth visiting are the Roman Odeon, which was built by the Romans during the 2nd and 3rd century, the Casa Romana, which impresses its visitors with its exquisite interiors and Ancient Agora, which in antiquity used to be the economic and social center of the island. 
For nature lovers, Kos can be a unique paradise thanks to its spellbinding natural landscape, as well as a wide range of sports activities that are available here. Whether you are fond of hiking, cycling, horse riding or water sports, this island can surely cater to your taste. It has indeed become a real magnet for windsurfers, kite surfers and scuba divers who seek an adrenaline rush in the Aegean Sea. 
If you want to become acquainted with the local tradition, it would be a good idea to discover more about it by going on a wine-tasting tour to find out about the traditional techniques of wine-making, an oil-making tour to witness the hand-picking of olives and the process of oil making or honey tours so that you can see from up close the beekeeping units and familiarize yourselves with the Greek beekeeping tradition.
Hippocratia are the most famous event on the island and it has been organized in the memory of Hippocrates for the last 30 years. The festivities last from the beginning of June until the end of October and if you happen to be on the island during this period, you will have the chance to attend various art exhibitions, music concerts, theatrical performances, sports events, book presentations and numerous other events.
Kos is one of the most sought-after summer destinations in the Dodecanese as it can combine a thrilling adventure in Greece with a rich cultural and historical background.
